At Tumaini Education Initiative, our mission is to provide accessible, quality education to individuals across Uganda, regardless of their socioeconomic background. We believe that education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for social and economic transformation. Rehema Nakato - Founder and Executive Director

Rehema Nakato is the visionary founder and Executive Director of Tumaini Education Initiative. Born and raised in a small village in Uganda, Rehema experienced firsthand the challenges faced by many young people in accessing quality education. Driven by a deep passion for social justice and a belief in the power of education, she established Tumaini to create opportunities for learners across the country. Rehema holds a Master's degree in Education from Makerere University and has over 10 years of experience in the field of international development.

Elijah Okello - Chief Technology Officer

Elijah Okello is the Chief Technology Officer at Tumaini Education Initiative. He is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the organization's online learning platform and digital resources. Elijah is a highly skilled software engineer with a strong background in educational technology. He is committed to using technology to bridge the education gap and create engaging learning experiences for students in Uganda. Elijah holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology.

Aisha Nambalirwa - Curriculum Development Manager

Aisha Nambalirwa is the Curriculum Development Manager at Tumaini Education Initiative. She is responsible for designing and developing high-quality, culturally relevant curriculum materials for the organization's online learning programs. Aisha is an experienced educator with a deep understanding of the Ugandan education system. She is passionate about creating engaging and effective learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of Ugandan learners. Aisha holds a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum Development from Kyambogo University.

Joseph Mwase - Community Outreach Coordinator

Joseph Mwase serves as the Community Outreach Coordinator, playing a vital role in connecting Tumaini Education Initiative with local communities throughout Uganda. He works closely with schools, community leaders, and families to promote the organization's programs and ensure that educational resources reach those who need them most. Joseph brings extensive experience in community development and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities. He holds a diploma in Social Work and Social Administration from the Uganda Christian University. Joseph’s commitment to empowering individuals and communities through education makes him an invaluable member of the Tumaini team.

Our History

Tumaini Education Initiative was founded in 2018 by Rehema Nakato, a passionate educator with a vision to transform education in Uganda. Inspired by her own experiences navigating the challenges of accessing quality education in rural Uganda, Rehema sought to create an organization that would bridge the education gap and provide opportunities for all learners.

Tumaini Education Initiative Timeline
Year Milestone
2018 Tumaini Education Initiative is founded by Rehema Nakato with the initial goal of providing basic literacy programs to underserved communities in the Kampala region.
2019 The organization expands its operations to include online learning programs, focusing on primary school education and basic computer skills training.
2020 Tumaini launches its first scholarship program, supporting underprivileged students in accessing secondary education. Partners with local schools to provide teacher training and resource materials.
2021 The organization develops and implements a comprehensive curriculum for secondary school students, with a focus on STEM subjects and vocational skills. Expands its reach to rural areas through mobile learning centers equipped with internet access and educational resources.
2022 Tumaini Education Initiative receives national recognition for its innovative approach to education and its impact on improving learning outcomes. Forges partnerships with international organizations to enhance its programs and expand its reach.
2023 Launches an advanced online learning platform with interactive courses, personalized learning paths, and virtual tutoring support. Establishes a mentorship program connecting students with industry professionals.
2024 Tumaini expands its focus to include adult education programs, offering vocational training and literacy courses to empower adults with essential skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
2025 Celebrates its 7th anniversary with significant achievements in improving education access and quality across Uganda, impacting thousands of students and families. Plans for further expansion and innovation in educational programs.
